Air Fryer Cleaning and Maintenance Best Practices
Regular cleaning keeps your air fryer performing at its best and prevents unwanted odours or smoke. This guide explains how to safely clean and maintain your air fryer to extend its lifespan and ensure great-tasting results every time.
Quick links
After each use
- Unplug and cool completely – Wait until the air fryer is cool to the touch before cleaning.
- Remove basket and pan – Take out the basket, pan, and any accessories used.
- Wash with warm soapy water – Use a soft sponge or cloth to clean. Avoid harsh scouring pads.
- Rinse and dry – Ensure all parts are rinsed thoroughly and dried completely before reassembling.
- Wipe the exterior – Use a damp cloth to wipe the body; do not spray water directly on or near vents.
Weekly deep clean
If you use your air fryer several times a week, plan a deeper clean every 5–7 uses:
- Soak basket and pan – Fill with warm soapy water and soak 10–15 minutes to loosen stuck-on residue.
- Scrub gently – Use a non-abrasive brush or sponge to remove any remaining food particles.
- Check heating element – Turn the unit upside down carefully and use a soft brush or damp cloth to remove debris or oil drips from the element.
- Clean vents – Use a dry brush or small vacuum attachment to clear dust and crumbs from air vents.
Removing grease & odours
For stubborn grease or lingering smells:
- Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with warm water and use it to scrub grease residue.
- Alternatively, soak parts in a vinegar-water mix (1:1) for 10 minutes, then rinse and dry.
- Run the air fryer empty for 3–5 minutes at 180°C after cleaning to help dry the interior and remove odours.
- Place a slice of lemon in the basket and run for a few minutes to neutralise strong smells naturally.
General maintenance
- Inspect regularly – Check for loose screws, cracked coatings, or worn seals around the pan.
- Keep vents clear – Never block vents; ensure airflow for proper heating and crisping.
- Use correct cookware – Only use approved, heat-safe accessories that fit inside the basket.
- Replace damaged parts – If the non-stick coating peels or electrical cord frays, contact support for replacement.
What not to do
- Do not use metal utensils or scouring pads – they scratch the non-stick surface.
- Do not immerse the main unit or power cord in water.
- Do not use oven cleaners, bleach, or harsh chemicals inside the basket or on the heating element.
- Do not store the air fryer with moisture trapped inside – always dry thoroughly first.
- Do not line the basket with foil or paper that blocks air vents during cooking.
